Reverse Seared Tri-tip Steak

Hand Fetish Irving

Enjoy the rich, smoky flavor of a tri-tip steak that has been cooked backwards just right. This dish is a BBQ masterpiece. It was slow-smoked to perfection and then finished with a sizzling sear.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tri-tip steak 2-3 pounds
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions:

Get your smoker ready by heating it up to 107F 225C

Making sure the coating is even, rub the tri-tip steak with olive oil

Put black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and kosher salt in a bowl

Mix them together to make a dry rub

Cover all sides of the tri-tip with a generous amount of the dry rub

Season the tri-tip and put it in the smoker

Cook until the internal temperature reaches 120F 49C, or until its done the way you like it

Take the tri-tip out of the smoker and set it aside to rest while you heat up the grill for searing

To get a tasty crust, sear the tri-tip on a hot grill for two to three minutes on each side

After letting the steak rest for 10 minutes, cut it across the grain

You can now serve and enjoy your reverse-seared tri-tip steak
